Finally, a piece clicked into place, and Martyn ceased his struggling. His jaw dropped.

    “Grian?”

“There we go,” Grian whispered, grinning ever wider. “Now, you remember me.”

Martyn heard himself let out a breathy laugh, rife with disbelief. He stared at the other man and a twisted level of understanding settled over him. Out of all the people he’d encountered on his journeys, of course Grian would be the one he bumped into in a realm of immortal beings.

Datastream!Martyn glitches between worlds and accidentally melds with a version of himself that he never should have been able to meet. Only another god can make things right.

    Summary

"Never have I ever lied about not being alright," Oli said after recounting half of his life story about how he entered the fishing industry. "You know that I'm honest about what I feel around my boys."

Everyone else simply glanced at each other in silence.

That felt like a pointless question — they all knew no one was going to say anything about that.

"Oh, you silly goose, you know I'd never do that!"

    Except Scar, apparently.

"And you keep talking about missing your crab wife when she's right there, Ponytail?" Martyn interjected.

"For the last time, Marty, my wife is not a bloody crab! Gods, you've been hanging around Sausage too much…"

Alternatively: It's game night with the Kestrels (ft. Scott), and they're playing "Never Have I Ever". Let the shenanigans begin!

    Summary

It wasn't a secret. It had never been a secret. Neither Scar nor Grian were the type to hide such a thing. Their friends just...knew. So they didn't talk about it. They were a Thing, and that was that.

Slight problem: Nobody thought to tell the newest Hermit's about this.

Slightly bigger problem: Pearl found out. It...well, it went as well as you think it did.

    Summary

Doc is a very intelligent man who has never done anything wrong, ever.

Consequently, the fact that there is now a stranger in the middle of his lab, looking utterly disheveled and very confused, is absolutely not his fault. Neither is the smoking phone booth-like machine which the stranger has just stumbled out of. This is all going perfectly normal and according to plan.

    (Oh, he’s screwed.)

    Summary

"I don't want to pry," Xisuma said when they were speaking before his official invitation to join. "And not answering won't change whether or not you get whitelisted. We admins just prefer to have a heads up if anything's likely to come trying to dig you up, so we can keep you and everyone else safe."

Grian thought back to obsidian and endstone and blood, to tattered wings and torn robes and so so many unseeable eyes, and swallowed hard.

"No," he said, his voice shaky. "No, I don't think anyone will come looking for me."

"Okay," Xisuma answered, and that was that.

Until they invited two new people to the server.

or, the Hermitcraft Backstory Rule says that you don't ask other people about their backstory, you let them tell it if they want to and leave it be if they don't.

Unfortunately for Grian, one of the newest Hermits was also a player on his old server - one he'd thought had been dead for years - and she's going to drag his backstory kicking and screaming into the light whether she means to or not.
