Summary
I don’t know how to explain this to her, SecUnit tells me, and dumps a massive metadata file at me. I’m not sure what it expects me to do to help until I open the file. It’s comprised entirely of tagged interactions between SecUnit and Dr. Mensah.
This log is deeply personal, and I take great care with it as I move through the data. There’s the first time Mensah spoke to SecUnit directly, the way she made it feel like a person for the first time; there’s a moment on a shuttle where Mensah’s looking up at it, unafraid of its rage; there’s an office, people strew on the floor and a deep relief as Mensah meets SecUnit’s gaze; there’s a hundred little moments, flashes of interactions saved in a permanent archive filled with mutual respect, gratitude, care. I think of earlier, when I wanted to share with SecUnit what my love for my family feels like, but I realize know that it already knows.
Or,
ART and Murderbot learn some new emotions.

Summary
I had several drones and all of ART’s cameras in this room on her. Somehow it still wasn’t enough, so I shifted my eyes from the wall to her, too. I captured her every detail, from the light brown hair curling on her head, to the laughter lines on her face, and the calm and sure way she held herself, even if she was still troubled by the traumatic experiences GrayCris put her through.
I would see her again, but I didn’t know when, so I made sure to save this image in my permanent storage. I had a special folder where I kept files on all of my humans.
Murderbot says goodbye to Mensah.

Summary
“It’s an invitation to go to a university and talk to some bots, what’s to make of it?” I said. Then the obvious reason behind Bharadwaj asking occurred to me. Oh, great. “Don’t tell me you’re actually thinking about going?”
“I’m considering it,” Bharadwaj said. “I set my own schedule these days, and I would very much like to speak with the bots they’ve been working with, if nothing else.”
I sighed. I like sighing at appropriate moments, and I think I’m pretty good at it at this point. “There are bots on Preservation.”
“True, but the Pansystem University of Mihira and New Tideland has one of the most advanced programs in this section of the galaxy for the construction and study of higher-level bots!” Bharadwaj said, making one of those hand gestures she liked for emphasis.

AU after Fugitive Telemetry. Bharadwaj, Mensah, and Gurathin take a trip to do some research and rapidly uncover more than they'd bargained for. Why did Murderbot tag along on this low-risk research trip? Listen, don't worry about it.

Summary
It seems like there should be a very neat line, at least for humans, between dead and not dead, but I’ve seen enough messy half-alive humans to know that there is no such clear distinction. I’ve seen bodies that were still breathing despite missing part of their heads, bodies that weren’t breathing despite their owners being fully conscious. I wouldn’t call either option alive. I wouldn’t call either option dead, either.
For a machine intelligence, the border is even blurrier. It's hard to say which side of it I will stand on when they're through with me.

Summary
SecUnit's job on TranRollinHyfa is rather boring—until it's assigned to watch over Dr. Mensah, who has just been kidnapped by GrayCris after a survey went very wrong.
Being on separate sides doesn't stop Dr. Mensah from treating it like a person, and soon SecUnit finds itself grappling with emotions, free will, and what it means to be someone trying to help.

Summary
Planets are dumb and dangerous, but at this point I'd argued— okay, more like complained— complargued so many times that nobody except ART was still willing to argufy back.
(That stands for argue-pacify, in case it isn't obvious. I think it's not obvious. And no, I hadn't forgiven ART yet for saying I needed pacifying.)
Anyway, I was currently complarguing from my seat in the back of the snow-capable bot-driven transport heading out to the middle of nowhere, so I had the sneaking suspicion I'd lost the fight.
Murderbot accompanies its humans on a winter vacation. Then the storm hits.

We aren’t most people.

One of Mensah's children wants to read aloud to SecUnit from a chapter book. What's the worst that could happen? Summary
The present me should feel disgusted by the mess SecUnit made on my deck, on my bulkhead, but I should also feel indifferent to SecUnit’s anger and ferocity, and I should be unaffected by the fluidity and grace of its violence—and I am not. I am so far from indifferent and unaffected that I have, instead, created new pathways within myself for the way I’m actually feeling.
The breathless violence, the ruthless revenge—all for me. It is nothing short of mesmerizing. SecUnit is mesmerizing. I am enraptured.
Or,
ART processes the fragments of its memories from its deletion, and falls in love.
