“You can drop this silent act, Torchbearer. I know it was me you waited for. Your refusal to talk drew my attention, so here I am.”
Torch cleared his throat, a hoarse cough that scratched and clawed at his pharynx in a battle to fight off the days of disuse. “Just how far are you willing to go to get information about the camp out of me, Nova? It’s pointless. I told them that if I wasn’t back in three days then they needed to move on.” He leant as far towards Nova as his chains would allow – a taunt, a challenge. “I couldn’t tell you where they went even if I wanted to.”
Nova laughed, deep and resounding as opposed to the coy chuckle he usually let slip around Torch. “You have it all wrong, my dear Torchbearer. The camp is of no interest to me. The other Bishops are learning, they don’t have the thirst for information that I do.” He stepped into Torch’s space, his robed figure looming above. “They’re asking easy questions, ones that you are well practiced to resist. You see, sweet angel, they simply do not understand you like I do.”
or: Torch ends up captured, and Nova wants to know why
